Information mission

Political decision-makers, the scientific community, the media, the general public: IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) aims to provide precise and objective information to enable as many people as possible to have a better understanding of the energy issues of the 21st century.

An independent expertise center

IFPEN boasts exceptional documentary resources and a unique capital of scientific, technical and economic knowledge gleaned over several decades of research and industrial successes.
The fields of energy and the environment will be subject to significant change. IFPEN strives to provide as many people as possible with the necessary information for a better understanding of this century's major challenges:

  • public authorities, by putting our independent expertise (scientific, technical, economic and industrial) at their service so they can make the best choices for each field of energy,
  • opinion leaders, and the media in particular,
  • the general public, by making a set of independent and objective analyses and informative resources accessible. They enable all concerned to form their own opinions on the major challenges to come in the fields of energy, transport and the environment,
  • young people, by proactively contributing to awareness-raising initiatives concerning scientific education and the world of research.

The dissemination of knowledge

While the dissemination of knowledge is one of IFPEN's public interest missions, it also contributes to its scientific influence, and, more broadly, that of French and European research on the international stage. IFPEN has built up a unique body of knowledge as a result of several decades of scientific research and industrial successes.
IFPEN has created its own peer-reviewed journal, Oil & Gas Science and Technology (OGST). Indexed in the major international databases, it covers all the disciplines and fields of activity within the scope of IFPEN:

  • exploration-production,
  • refining and petrochemicals,
  • powertrains,
  • new energies.

Oil & Gas Science and Technology is freely available on OGST website.

Every year, IFPEN publishes:

  • over 200 articles, 75% of which are in peer-reviewed international journals. These journals are indexed in Thomson ISI databases,
  • reference works in its recognized fields of scientific expertise.

IFPEN is keen to promote scientific research and ensure its knowledge is disseminated to the widest possible audience. To this end, it is a member of the Universciences partenaires foundation.
In 2013, along with 13 other research bodies, IFPEN took part in the French Science Festival, broadcast live on the Internet thanks to innovative augmented reality technology.
In addition, the IFPEN website includes a Discovery space aimed at the general public. It provides analyses, summaries and educational documents keeping readers informed of the major issues associated with the fields of energy, transport and the environment, as well as the R&D under way at IFPEN to meet the challenges in these fields.
In 2013, new content was added to the site dealing with IFPEN's responses to the issues of climate change.
