Chairs in teaching and research

The aim of these chairs is to support and develop teaching and research on subjects that involve major issues in today's energy context, and which require considerable education and training efforts.

Research areas

Five chairs have been set up so far in the following areas, with the support of the Tuck Foundation and industrial partners:

  • Sedimentology and reservoir modelling
    This chair was created in 2008 with the support of Total. The holder is Philippe Joseph, professor in IFP School's Center for Exploration-Production. Research is centered around enhanced recovery of hydrocarbon reservoirs and CO2 capture and storage.
  • Hybrid vehicles and energy control
    Created in 2009, this chair was set up with the help of the Tuck Foundation. Antonio Sciarretta, from IFP Energies nouvelles' Technology, Computer Science and Applied Mathematics research division was appointed as its leader. This chair aims to reinforce IFP School's position on environmental issues related to the automobile industry in terms of local pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Thermodynamics for biomass fuels
    This chair was created in 2010 with the support of the Tuck Foundation. The holder is Jean-Charles de Hemptinne from IFP Energies nouvelles' Applied Chemistry and Physical Chemistry division. At the end of 2012, it was extended for a further three years. Research is centered on the description of fluids for modeling physico-chemical properties of biomass fuels.
  • Economic modeling applied to energy and the environment
    This chair in the field of economics was created at the end of 2011 and is held by Frédéric Lantz, Professor at IFP School. It addresses the issue of the economic  development of new energy pathways, particularly the development of bio-fuels in the refining industry, the use of bio-energy and other alternative energy sources and the  functioning of energy markets.
  • Bio-fuels
    Created at the end of 2012, this chair is the product of a partnership between PSA Peugeot Citroën, the Tuck Foundation and IFP School. It focuses on three fields of study: the economic and environmental viability of bio-fuels, the impact of their physico-chemical characteristics and the composition of mixtures on the emission of pollutants and vehicle consumption, and the impact of their use on the vehicle itself. The chair is held by Anne Jaecker, associate professor at IFP School.
