SnakePART® THP : Advanced Safety Solution for the Building Sector

22 October 2008

The SnakePART® THP product, developed by the Compart company and IFP, has just passed the fire resistance tests of the CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment), an approved testing laboratory for the building sector, under the EN 1366-4 standard. For the first time in Europe, a joint, the SnakePART® THP, combines high-performance fire resistance and the durability required for the future CE marking.

A new generation of fire-resistant expansion joints for lasting safety has emerged in Europe.

Compart, an SME, aims to leverage this innovation to become the European leader in the fire-break compartmentation market within five years. There have already been three recruitments in connection with the commercial launch of the product.

This success rounds off a two-year Compart / IFP cooperation. Compart benefited from the technological support IFP provides to SMEs to bring their innovations to market. In this particular case, IFP made available its skills and resources for testing materials, along with its expertise in the fields of industrial property and the environment.

In addition to outstanding fire resistance (4-hour fire-break rating / EI 240), compliant with the new European regulation, the SnakePART® THP product boasts the following assets:

Durability: the tests performed on SnakePart, more than 15,000 compression-decompression cycles, corresponding to a lifespan of more than 40 years, far exceed the 500 cycles required for the CE marking. Strips of rock wool used with glue and a fire-resistant mastic, the only solution available until now, cannot meet the new requirements. SnakePART® THP is therefore currently the main used product capable of performing the three functions - expansion joint, fire seal and insulating material - over the lifespan of a building … real progress in safety.

Protecting people and the environment: it contains no halogenated compounds or fibrous substances.

Savings: a much shorter installation time and a competitive installed cost.
