With the support of the Fondation Tuck, IFP School has just created a chair entitled "Thermodynamics for biomass fuels". Against the backdrop of a constantly changing energy sector, IFP School is anticipating the growing need for expertise relating to biofuels and is thus strengthening its position on environmental issues.

Jean-Charles de Hemptinne, a research engineer in IFP’s Applied Chemistry and Physical Chemistry Division and a Professor at IFP School, will take the helm of this newly created chair. Jean-Charles de Hemptinne will be responsible for developing new teaching modules and also conducting research into fluid description with a view to modeling physical and chemical properties of biomass fuels. He will therefore be in charge of strengthening the links between IFP’s research and the School. The aim is also to improve research visibility, particularly through publications, whilst providing students with a level of training which is up to the challenges associated with energy transition. This is the third chair created in IFP School, the "Sedimentology and reservoir characterization" and "Hybrid vehicles and energy control" chairs being the first two.

An integral part of IFP, IFP School prepares tomorrow’s specialists to take up the challenges associated with the energy transition. Open to graduate students from around the world, IFP School provides a full range of training programs delivered in French or English in every area of the energy field (oil, gas, petrochemicals, powertrains, new energy technologies, energy markets). The school has built up a very solid international reputation, backed up by close partnerships with research and industrial players (each year, 50% of its student intake is international, coming from around fifty different countries, and over 80% of its students are sponsored by industry).
