Demonstration vehicles

A demonstration model is the conversion of innovation into a prototype vehicle.
It requires the application of a comprehensive set of skills, from combustion chamber design to production of onboard electronics.
Thee purpose of these demonstration vehicles is to show the reduction in pollutant emissions and fuel consumption, using new combustion concepts combined with component innovations. An engine control system designed especially for the demonstration model will thus make it possible to make full use of the innovation's potential.

VEHGAN (Natural Gas Hybrid Vehicle)

Hybrid Natural Gas Vehicle

Working in partnership with Valeo, GDF Suez and ADEME (Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l'Énergie), IFP Energies nouvelles has developed a serial production Smart vehicle that runs on natural gas.

This is a mild-hybrid vehicle in which complete IFP Energies nouvelles control has been installed, ensuring optimized management of the natural gas engine, and also of the gear box and alternator-starter.

Renault VelSatis Ecosural

The project was conducted in partnership with Faurecia Système d'Echappement and Honeywell Turbo Technologies and with the contribution of Renault.
In controlled ignition engines, IFP Energies nouvelles is renowned for its work in the field of downsizing (reduction of engine displacement and compensation by turbocharging), making it possible to cut fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 20%. This vehicle integrates demonstration of this concept with complete IFP Energies nouvelles engine control, making full use of the technology's potential.

Renault Vel Satis Homogeneous Diesel

IFP Energies nouvelles has developed a demonstration vehicle based on a Renault VelSatis (2-liter diesel engine). It has been fitted with a low-NOx combustion chamber patented by IFP Energies nouvelles and an IFP Energies nouvelles engine control. This engine control incorporates advanced mode change management algorithms (between conventional modes and HCCI).
