An eco-efficient approach to this resource is essential in order to limit the amount of water resources used and to reduce the water footprint of industry.
Industry uses water in numerous ways. Water is a crucial component which is involved both in the production of energy and in the reduction of emissions into the air of the resulting products. The production of hydrocarbons, for example, is heavily reliant on the injection of water in liquid or vapor state.
IFPEN entered this field of research focusing on the management of produced water when producing hydrocarbon reservoirs and conducted a strategic analysis resulting in a roadmap for the year to come.
Partnerships with oil operators and water service companies are to be launched soon. Furthermore, IFPEN has a fluid separation testing platform at its Lyon site.
Finally, the management of wastewater from refineries is also being taken into account.
