Olivier Appert, new Chairman of the Conseil Français de l'Energie

Olivier Appert, Chairman and CEO of IFP Energies nouvelles, has just been elected Chairman of the Conseil Français de l'Energie (French Energy Council) for a period of 3 years by its Board. He takes over from Anne Lauvergeon, whose mandate has come to an end.

The Conseil Français de l'Energie (CFE) is the French national committee of the World Energy Council (WEC). The CFE brings together French companies and organizations from scientific, technical or industrial fields related to energy. The CFE offers decision-makers its expertise, proposing strategies for all issues related to energy and the environment (standards, new technologies, energy pricing and subsidies, etc.). The CFE also encourages and supports research projects promoting sustainable development in the field of energy.

The World Energy Council is a non-governmental organization founded in 1923. It is present in over 90 countries – two-thirds of which are developing countries –, and has almost 3,000 members worldwide (public authorities, businesses, research centers, etc.), representing all energy resources and technologies. The WEC’s mission is to promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all. Every three years, the WEC organizes one of the world’s leading congresses in the field of energy; the most recent of these was held in Montreal in September 2010 and welcomed some 7,500 participants.

Olivier Appert will play a key role in guiding considerations within the CFE, and hence the WEC, the aim being to identify potential avenues to address the energy challenges of the 21st century. Under his leadership, the Council will continue to develop its position as a recognized forum for debate and dialogue between energy players. It will also actively contribute to lead debates and proposals within the WEC.
