Water management

Cutting the industry's water footprint: interactions between the industrial sector and water are manifold. Water plays a vital role in both producing energy and cutting emissions of its by-products.

The production of oil relies on injecting water as a fluid or vapor. It is also used to manage the saline aquifers involved in the geological storage of CO2.

An eco-efficient approach to this resource is essential in order to limit its use and cut the industry's water footprint.

IFP Energies nouvelles invested in production water research in 2010 and carried out strategic analysis which led to the drawing up of a roadmap for the coming year.

Partnerships with oil operators are currently being launched. Furthermore, IFP Energies nouvelles boasts a platform for studying fluid separation on its Lyon site.
