The Strategy CCUS (Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage) project, supported by the Horizon 2020 program, was officially launched for a period of three years on 13 May.

The aim of the project is to draw up strategic plans for the development of CCUS in Southern and Eastern Europe (Croatia, Spain, France, Greece, Poland, Portugal and Romania) and consider approaches for the construction of a CCUS infrastructure on a European scale. The project will focus on regions with a high concentration of major emitting industries, CO2 storage and/or utilization options, the potential to combine CCUS and hydrogen production and a political drive to promote CCUS.

The project is being coordinated by the BRGM (French Geological and Mining Research Bureau) and conducted with 16 other partners, including research centers, universities and industrial players. IFPEN’s teams will contribute their expertise in the technical and economic evaluation of the various CCUS deployment scenarios, including the evaluation of environmental externalities.
