IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN), Beicip-Franlab (BF) and KAPPA Engineering (KAPPA) announce the signature of a partnership to offer an advanced and complete reservoir simulation solution to the oil & gas industry.

This contract follows a first collaboration initiated in 2016 between BF and KAPPA on the commercialization of PumaFlow, IFPEN’s reservoir flow simulator.

This collaboration is now raised to a new level with the development and commercialization of Puma, featuring PumaFlow simulator executed from a brand-new interface integrated into KAPPA-Workstation. Puma will replace PumaFlow in 2021. It will complement and share numerous features with Rubis, KAPPA’s fullfield numerical model. The PumaFlow simulator will also be packaged and deployed as an independent service for the next generation of automation processes.

The partnership benefits from the strengths and synergies of three recognized leaders in their fields.

IFPEN is a major research player in the field of energy, with reservoir simulation expertise built over 50 years, from lab experiments to numerical modeling.

BF, affiliated with IFPEN, is a widely recognized consulting firm and software editor, with expertise ranging from basin to integrated reservoir analysis.

KAPPA is an independent developer of reservoir engineering software and the market leader in the analysis of dynamic reservoir data.

“This partnership opens up new opportunities for IFPEN’s reservoir simulation activities, expanding the market for our software and giving us access to new customers”, pointed out Catherine Rivière, IFPEN Energy Resources Business Unit Director.

“Puma will allow our customers to accelerate field development studies and integrate to an unmatched level data analysis with advanced reservoir simulation, perfectly matching the need of new workflows”, said Jean Burrus, Chairman and CEO of BF.

“In our initial partnership we did not go far enough. We needed to fully integrate IFPEN’s technology in our core products”, said Olivier Houzé, KAPPA Managing Director. “Puma will be a KAPPA product ‘powered by’ IFPEN. The work is ambitious but the timing is perfect, with the convergence of the industry recovery and the development of new automation workflows”.
